Brian is one of the longest serving members of the Scottish Association of Moviemakers, part of IAC, the British Federation.
He was Chairman for four years from 1990 to 1994, is still on the
Committee and works tirelessly for our hobby. For many years he
organised an annual weekend workshop which for many years was held
at Crieff Hydro Hotel, but is now held in the grounds of Stirling
University at the Stirling Management Centre.
He was a member of the Dalziel Camcorder Club (in Motherwell) until it closed and is now a leading light in XDL Films which he formed with a couple of other former members. Although a small group, they have had considerable success in film competitions.
For a number of years Brian was also a member of the Edinburgh Cine & Video Society. During his membership he achieved the record of winning the top award five years in a row. This remains unbroken to this day. As a member of E.C.V.S. he had to make a round trip of over 50 miles to attend each meeting.
Brian has taken part in many judging sessions of club, regional and national competitions including being on the judging panels of the British International Amateur Film Festival (BIAFF). His decisions are sound and his comments pertinent and most useful for the entrants. He now writes a regular column in the IAC magazine, ‘Film & Video Maker’ about Scottish affairs and keeps members throughout the country well aware of activities north of the Border. In recognition of his merits as a film maker and his organisational skills for the movie movement he was awarded a Fellowship of the I.A.C. in 1992.
Not content with movies alone Brian is also an enthusiastic supporter of still photography and is a member of the Motherwell Photographic Society and has served them as Competitions Officer and also as Chairman. He makes audio-visual programmes of a high standard and members who came to the IAC AGM in Stirling a couple of years ago will remember the whole evening of his productions.
He was awarded the UNICA Medal at the British International Film & Video Festival held in Chesterfield in April 2013.
